ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a digital artist and maker based in Cape Town, South Africa. I studied fine art and pursued graphic and web design and delved into the enchantment that women’s crafts hold. My fascination with the subtle nuances between perception and reality is manifest in my work. 

I dedicate my time to the exploration of consciousness, perception, and expression. A journey reflected in my art where the ephemeral nature of perception is explored through the lens of chance. Granting the viewer a momentary glimpse of fleeting significance. Digital art, photomontage, photo manipulation, and fragments of photographs are my tools. Carefully selected photographs are fused, layered, textured, and overlapped in an artistic practice that uses digital technology as a form of expressive curation. 

Tapping into the infinite possibilities inherent in digital art; emotions, symbolism, and intuitive creative immersion make up the ingredients for my expressive artworks. Allowing me to play on the fringes of the conceptional, expressive, and esoteric where perception and reality are layered in my artistic universe.

Influenced by the essence and minds of James Dawe, Becha, Vasilis Marmatakis, Alex Contreras, Kara Walker, and Paula do Prado.

A montage is said to be an assembly of images to create a single work of art. The enchantment of the digital collage lies in its translucence. In how the ephemeral nature of the layers interacts with light, color, and shape to obscure, expose or entice something utterly unexpected. It conjures the unimaginable. Its magic lies in the resonance while also hiding in the dissonance.
